Elliot S. Katz was born in 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, to Samuel and Martha Katz.  He grew up in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, where he attended Yeshiva of Central Queens for elementary and junior high school education.  Thereafter, he studied at Yeshiva University High School Manhattan and graduated Queens College of the City University of New York with a B.A.  Mr. Katz earned his Juris Doctor from New York Law School, graduating Cum Laude.  After passing the New York Bar exam, he practiced law in New York City for several years.
In 1973, Mr. Katz and his family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was hired by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as in-house counsel.  In addition to becoming admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar, he was admitted to the Israeli Bar.  He became the first President of the newly-formed Young Israel of Pittsburgh and an initial committee member for the organization of the Pittsburgh Kollel and the Pittsburgh Eruv.  His most recent accomplishment was receiving in July of 2016, his ordination as a Rabbi which has enabled him to serve as a volunteer Chaplain for Aleph Institute. Mr. Katz has continued to practice law in Pennsylvania for more than 40 years.  He and his wife, Donna, have four children, all of whom graduated Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh, and many grandchildren. The Katzes worship at Bais Yechezkel-Lubavitch Center.
